Rear Window Therapy

So yesterday I spent a good while gazing into strangers’ apartments from a friend’s window. I wish I could say I saw something crazy - I didn’t. Life however, in its simplest forms can be fascinating, if only in the sense that it’s so easy to forget that the world doesn’t revolve around me. Call it what you will, self-absorption, vanity, whatever, it’s inevitable that at some points we are the centers of our own worlds right? We saw a girl washing dishes in her pajamas, a woman doing laundry, a man who closed his blinds only to walk away (the blinds were see-thru anyway)…

Immersing yourself in those worlds, in that particular way (ie. by spying) seems like it should feel creepy but in a weird way it feels kind of humbling. I’ve always tried to make a point to show interest in the lives of others; last night I did a pretty good job.
