Pitchfork Top 10 Albums, In US Sales

petervidani:

adamisacson:

perpetua:

1. Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion 131k
2. Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca 48k
3. the xx xx 35k
4. The Flaming Lips Embryonic 75k (estimate)
5. Raekwon Only Built For Cuban Linx Part II 141k
6. Grizzly Bear Veckatimest 132k
7. Bat For Lashes Two Suns 36k
8. Phoenix Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix 205k
9. Fever Ray Fever Ray 23k
10. Girls Album 19k

I don’t know the economics of this at all, but it’s hard to imagine an indie band even paying its grocery bills with such measly record sales. If we assume Animal Collective cleared $3 per album, then each member of the band would have got about $100,000 from US sales of Merriweather Post - less than what a mid-level Senate staffer makes.

Dossier Totes

As it were…

We had this idea to ask some of our friends to create a collaborative series of one-of-a-kind tote bags. The end project is a limited edition of 150, with each natural canvas tote bag designed and signed by each artist. All of the totes have been customized using a different artistic process, ranging from hand-done drawings and intricate quilt-work to simple screen printing and photo transfers.

Contributors to this project include fashion designer Zac Posen, artists Hisham Akira Bharoocha, Fanny Bostrom and Jeremiah Maddock, musician Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, architect Robert Harvey Oshatz, fashion stylists Christopher Niquet and Pamela Love, poet T. Cole Rachel, and photographers Tim Barber and Nicholas Lorden.

Select bags can also be purchased at:
I Heart   262 Mott Street NY, NY 10012
And Then Some   103 Bond Street Brooklyn, NY 11217

Participating artists: Anna Ahonen, Tim Barber, Hisham Akira Bharrocha, Jonathan Black, Andrew Blazer, Suzuya Bobo, Fanny Bostrom, Joanna Bovay, Alex Chodak, Adi Cydulkin, Roi Cydulkin, Hedi Ferjani, Alex Eagleton, Alec Friedman, Joey Gabriel, Brooke Goldberg, Katherine Krause, Sally Krause, Katariina Lamberg, Jojo Li, Nicholas Lorden, Pamela Love, Jeremiah Maddock, Katrina del Mar, Richie Mosley, David Mramor, Christopher Niquet, Robert Harvey Oshatz, Skye Parrott, Zac Posen, T. Cole Rachel, Eso Robinson, Chris Taylor, Cheyenne Timpero, Dana Veraldi, Meagan Ziegler-Haynes

DOSSIER WEBSITE - TOTES

Price: US - $25.00 (plus $3.00 shipping)   International - $25.00 (plus $10.00 shipping)

17 Tracks that Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste is currently listening to…

some of these are like “meh” but others are good and seeing as I have to rebuild my entire iTunes, anything is better than nothing (if that makes sense).

BREAKING NEWS: Lollapalooza cool again. Sort of.

After years of being the big fat joke of the summer festivals - the bastard step-child that even the Ozzfesters would laugh at - Lollapalooza picks up the pieces and attempts to provide a festival that people might actually want to see, this year. It seems nobody was even aware of their re-branding efforts until the other day when Chicago Sun Times leaked their rather impressive lineup:

Radiohead, Grizzly Bear (who are opening for Radiohead on the second leg of their North American tour), Wilco, Kanye, Broken Social Scene, Malkmus, Jamie Lidell, Cat Power, the Black Keys, the Cool Kids, Kid Sis.

Grizzly Bear, Wilco, BSS, Radiohead and Lidell are all lovely live performers and people I’d see again in a heartbeat.  So without further hesitation I’d say…. book your tickets to Chicago now kiddies.  Lollapalooza is the Pitchfork festival on roids.

Shrigley Melodies.

One of my favorite illustrators, David Shrigley just put together a concept album fusing his lyrics with the musical savvy of some of indie music’s finest acts, including: Cibelle, Deerhoof, Islands and Grizzly Bear. There’s also going to be a little performance in three cities, NYC being one of them. Here’s the flyer:
